Statewide recall alert issued for Swan Bros. dairy products. – FOX23 News

TULSA, Okla. – Raw milk produced by Swan Bros. Claremore Dairy, Inc. is subject to a statewide recall due to the confirmed detection of Listeria.

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ODAFF) advises anyone who has purchased or received raw milk products from Swan Bros. Dairy, Inc. to dispose of the remaining product.

These products were sold in half gallons, gallons and pints of plastic direct from the Swan Bros. Dairy in Claremore. They include whole raw milk, 2 percent raw milk, raw skim milk and raw heavy cream sold in pints.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, seizures and loss of balance. These symptoms are sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature labor, or potentially fatal infection of newborns.

Sometimes these infections can be serious or fatal in adults and people with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. People in high-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming contaminated food should see a doctor and inform their healthcare professional about consuming the contaminated food.

ODAFF found Listeria bacteria in a routine sample collected from Swan Bros. Dairy, Inc. Most illnesses probably occur from the consumption of raw / unpasteurized milk and dairy products. Pasteurization kills foodborne pathogens and harmful bacteria like Listeria.
