Heritage Kulfi: Premium Ice Cream with Unique South Asian Flavors Expands Distribution to Retail and Foodservice

Kulfi is a popular frozen dairy dessert throughout South Asia that has been enjoyed throughout the region for hundreds of years. Today, Heritage Kulfi, a family-owned company based in Princeton, New Jersey, puts a modern spin on Kulfi, combining the freshest milk and cream from locally and regionally sourced farms with all-natural, non-GMO ingredients. Move over, chocolate chunks and peanut butter ice cream, there’s a new flavor in town — and it’s bringing the authentic flavors of Southeast Asia straight to freezers across America.

Heritage Kulfi has gained unprecedented popularity and has grown since its recent market debut in 2022. The brand is now available at specialty and gourmet grocers, natural markets and regional outlets, including stores across Asia South, Middle East and East Asia and growing. It is also gaining popularity with food service operators and chefs. For a complete map of locations that carry Heritage Kulfivisit heritagekulfi.com/connect.

Heritage Kulfi achieves a unique creamy texture through a proprietary slow-cooking process, and with its South Asian-inspired flavors, the brand embraces tradition while creating its own identity in today’s market. Kulfi’s Legacy flavors are designed from the ground up to be vegetarian, egg-free, gluten-free and halal. The distinct range of eight delicious, velvety, seductive and intense flavors includes: Cardamom Chai, Earl Gray, Alphonse Mangue, Saffron, Pistachio, Rose water, Vanilla pod, and Coconut. Vegan and dairy-free flavors are currently in development. The product comes in 1-quart/16-ounce containers at an SRP of $7.99.

“The intention was to use authentic, high-quality ingredients when developing each flavor. Drawing on my own nostalgia for South Asian cuisine and desserts from my childhood has allowed me to confidently create something that I know others would also enjoy,” says Mansoor Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Heritage Kulfi. “I’m very excited to offer all ice cream lovers something new and unique.”

Ahmed is a proud New Yorker, born in Manhattan to traditional Pakistani parents who immigrated from South Asia. Ahmed has years of experience in the dessert industry, having worked with other kulfi makers before successfully running another business serving the South Asian community in the greater New York area.

Years later, Ahmed and his wife Rebecca moved to Princeton, New Jersey, establishing roots with the city’s local South Asian community while remaining active with the South Asian community across the river in New York. It was at Princeton that Ahmed discovered he was at the epicenter of a booming ice cream destination.

For Ahmed and many people around the world, 2019 and 2020 have marked times of dramatic change, and Ahmed has seen his interests and priorities shift. Interactions with the Princeton community spurred him to action, as he realized there was a demand for high-quality, locally made products that speak to the South Asian experience.

After a year of developing, sampling and establishing partnerships, Heritage Kulfi launched its full line of flavors in winter 2021. The company is currently distributed in the tri-states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and is expanding nationwide.
