Goody Goody Gumdropped! Tip Top Drops Two Kiwi Ice Cream Favorites

Tip Top has discontinued two of its most popular flavors, the 2 liter jars of Cookies and Cream and Goody Goody Gumdrops, sparking outrage from Kiwis online.

“Tip Top 2L cookies and cream and goody goody gumballs are discontinued in this 2L format,” Tip Top chef Ben Schurr told 1News in a statement.

“Tip Top’s ice cream is always made with the finest quality ingredients, including fresh milk and cream, and unfortunately, due to significant cost pressures related to these two items, we were unable to continue these two flavors in the 2L format without sacrificing the quality of our ice cream,” said Schurr.

Although the flavors are no longer available on supermarket shelves, they will remain in ice cream shops.

An employee of supermarket operator Foodstuffs, owner of Pak’nSave, New World and Four Square, told the New Zealand Herald that the line of ice cream in tubs had been discontinued by the supplier.

People took to social media to express their outrage at the decision, with some calling for other flavors to be dropped instead.

The popularity of Cookies and Cream was evident at the recent New Zealand Ice Cream Awards where it won the Kids’ Choice award.

Cookies and Cream was also voted New Zealanders’ third favorite ice cream flavor in a survey for the Weekend Herald in 2010. Goody Goody Gumdrops trailed in sixth place in the survey.

Dairy owners told the Weekend Herald at the time that Cookies and Cream was a favorite and was requested primarily by children, teenagers and young adults.

In the aftermath of the news, social media users pledged to start buying similar flavors from other brands.
