Fire shuts down popular cafe and ends ice cream season early

CINCINNATI — Caffeine lovers won’t be able to stop by BLOC Coffee Company on Friday after a fire damaged the business.

Crews were called to the cafe on Mt. Hope Avenue in the Incline District around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Fire crews reported everyone was able to get out safely and the fire was largely contained to the back patio. Firefighters said they had the situation under control in about 10 minutes.

BLOC Coffee Company shared on Facebook that the interior is still in good condition, but there is a bit of smoke damage and cleaning to be done.

BLOC Coffee Company defines itself as more than just a coffee shop, but more as a social enterprise.

They provide vocational training and work experience for women in the Bloc Ministries Redeemed Home.

They also provide long-term intervention and life transition for women who have been victims of trafficking, prostitution and drug addiction.

While serving coffee, they said they also like that there is a community side and there is change.

The Bold Face Dairy Bar shares a spot in the same building, and they shared on social media that they would cut their season by about a week because of the fire.
