As we’re about to witness a change of season, there’s at least one aspect of summer you shouldn’t give up: ice cream. Yes, the town has an array of ice cream shops, but the Charlotte area has recently gotten a little sweeter with the addition of Carolina Scoops in Pineville.

Pineville resident and owner Sara Longstreet opened the ice cream shop in early June, and the store is buzzing with excitement, a cool vibe and satisfaction for those who proclaim ice cream to be their language. ‘love.

With no ice cream shop in downtown Pineville, Longstreet saw demand and was determined to meet it.

“It needed to just have a place where families could come after games, or to celebrate birthdays or just get out of the house after dinner and go for dessert,” Longstreet told CharlotteFive. “There are a lot of people who have come to do rituals – like there is a father and a daughter from my neighborhood who come every Friday.”

Witnessing the interaction of the community is also a highlight for Longstreet.

“Thanks to COVID, I just felt like we lost touch with people,” she said. “So bringing people in and seeing families together and celebrating and just seeing people connecting again has been the most rewarding part.”

Having delicious ice cream in the center of these connections is an added bonus. Longstreet takes its job seriously, intentionally sourcing more than 15 flavors of ice cream from Maple View Farms in Hillsboro and another ice cream vendor in Florida. A bi-weekly ice cream delivery from Maple View Farms ensures the shop is equipped to create frozen desserts, such as sundaes, shakes, floats and more.

Along with her two children, Longstreet spent a summer visiting every dairy farm in North Carolina to sample different flavors of ice cream, making decisions about what to serve at Carolina Scoops. They landed on a few ready-made flavors and classics from her childhood, like bubblegum and cotton candy. The Carolina Crunch is a crowd favorite.

“I tried to choose classic flavors, but also new and innovative flavors,” she said. “Also, I try to have two non-dairy flavors available at all times for people who may not be able to consume high sugar milk, cream or ice cream. So there is a little for everyone.

An ice cream parlor with a toy department? Yes, it’s true.

Flexibility coupled with good hospitality is part of the guest experience at Carolina Scoops. Due to the unusual flavor offerings, tasting samples is also part of the experience, so people are confident in their decision.

“We’re very flexible with whatever the client wants,” she said. “We just want to make sure they get exactly what they want and are happy with it.”

The toys section is a nod to Longstreet’s previous career in the toy industry. Visitors can spend more time in the store browsing the toy selections, all of which are $15 or less. “It’s a warm atmosphere inside, and the most important thing is the quality of what we serve but also the customer service.”

Future plans include expanding the menu to include seasonal items. Carolina Scoops will also be participating in other community events in Pineville. Visitors can expect menu items, such as coffee and hot chocolate mixed with ice cream for the winter.

“Eventually I want to get a mobile food cart so I’m very excited to expand that way and bring Carolina Scoops to community events instead of just relying on people to come see us. “, said Longstreet.
