FAIRFIELD, CT – Several new businesses are gearing up to open in the coming weeks and will be serving a variety of food and treats this summer in Fairfield.
Post Oak Barbecue Co. replaces the Brickyard Pub, which closed over a year ago, leaving the historic 2,700 square foot brick building vacant at 93 Post Road. The new occupant, which promises authentic wood-smoked barbecue with a blend of Asian and Southwestern flair, will host a grand opening event on March 31.
“I’m a big barbecue fan, so I can’t wait,” said Community and Economic Development Manager Mark Barnhart, who confirmed the opening. “I think they’re going to do very well there, and we’re delighted to welcome them to Fairfield.”
Bonkers Cupcakes, which will also be located at 1618 Post Road, the former KL & Sam interior design site, is also expected to open in the coming weeks. The bakery will offer personalized cupcakes and a candy-filled delivery car will cater to customers’ late-night cravings, according to the bakery’s website.
“It will be a great addition to downtown,” Barnhart said. “We’re thrilled to have them open here.”
For those who prefer ice cream to cake, Tabitha’s Ice Cream plans to open this spring in the Trademark Building at 665 Commerce Drive, where it will neighbor the new Sally’s Apizza location coming to town this summer. Tabitha already has a seasonal flagship store at Captain’s Cove Seaport on Black Rock Harbor, but will now also serve dairy and vegan ice cream, Micalizzi’s Italian Ice, as well as coffee and tea at Fairfield.
“They will be a great addition to the Commerce Drive area,” Barnhart said. “I think this area is certainly underserved as a market, so we’re delighted to welcome them here and wish them well in their new location.”
