10 of the best ice cream parlors in Gloucestershire

What’s in the sky? Could it be the sun? If the meteorologists are to be believed, we’re in for at least two weeks of end-to-end sunshine, so what better time to cool off than with an ice cream?

But it can’t be just any ice cream. With Gloucestershire having more than its fair share of bespoke salons, it wouldn’t be fair to settle for anything less than homemade and locally sourced.

The rolling fields of Gloucestershire are home to dairy herds that help create everything from a traditional vanilla scoop to homemade ice creams flavored with everything from real garden mint to rhubarb crumble.

Jolly Nice – Frampton Mansell

Harriet started making her own ice cream around 15 years ago using local milk, double cream and eggs, and each tub is filled by hand with no ready-made colorings or flavourings. It’s like manna from heaven for true ice cream lovers, creamy and delicious, with lip-smacking flavors. The only problem is knowing which one to choose.

Unusual flavors: forced rhubarb, currant & elderberry, orange marmalade

Wholly Gelato in Elmore – The Hobbs have farmed land in Elmore for nearly half a century, starting as a mixed farm but still specializing in dairy farming, but in the face of low milk prices they established a ice cream

All Gelato – Elmore

On a farm near the banks of the Severn, this charming family business not only sells homemade ice cream, but also milk on draft from their magnificent herd of cows. On weekends and during holidays, there are often queues at the ice cream parlor’s door, clamoring for the latest flavors.

The Old Mill – Lower Slaughter

This mill shop and museum has an ice cream parlor selling homemade organic ice cream in cones or tubs, just beside the River Eye in this idyllic Cotswold village.

Kaspa’s – Cheltenham and Gloucester

Part of a dessert chain selling sweet treats galore that has proven popular, especially with young people. Offering sundaes, shakes, pancakes and smoothies.

Unusual flavors: chewing gum, passion fruit, butterscotch



Launched more than 30 years ago in South Africa, the company now expands to Cirencester with 24 flavors of gelato and sorbets, as well as milkshakes and a decadent range of ice cream cakes.

Ice Cream Cottage – Tewkesbury

It’s more of a sundae parlor than just ice cream, but they’re legendary in the area. Huge glasses of deliciousness – as long as you have a really sweet tooth – with names like Birthday Cake, Biscoff Cheesecake and Chocolate Heaven.

Winstone’s – Rodborough Common, Stroud

These guys have been around since 1925 when Albert Winstone started selling ice creams on the common. What was once a small shack serving a handful of people has now been replaced by a large ice cream parlor offering up to 17 different flavors to the customers who flock daily.

Unusual flavors: rhubarb crumble, Union Jack, banoffee


A family run farm nestled on the borders of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, serving homemade ice cream made with milk from their own cows and natural ingredients.

Unusual flavors: blackberry and apple, apple cider, damson

Oh My Goat – Mitcheldean

Launched in 2020 in the town of Forest of Dean, OMG (geddit?) makes its ice cream from goat’s milk instead of cows, from its own herd.

Unusual flavors: brown bread, coconut, salted butter caramel

Creams – Cheltenham

Another dessert chain, this time in the Quartier de la Brasserie, delivers ice cream, cakes and other sweet delights to hordes of young and old customers.

Unusual flavors: Arabica coffee, Amalfi lemon, berries.
